Server will be down for most of Thursday, April 1st for a motherboard upgrade and installation of more processors. I expect the server to be back up Thursday late at night, as I'm probably going to spend a large part of the day cutting up the case I bought into a shape I can use, then reformatting everything, and re-updating everything to full working order.

Your information is preserved in a backup, you will not lose anything.

I apologize in advance for the inconvenience!

Please restart your mush and mud processes if they aren't running. (please CHECK before starting them up, as I've recently added a bunch to the restart script)

HTTP will be fixed shortly.

There's some issue with the server, the mush/mud sessions are still up, but the outbound services (mainly HTTP, FTP, SSH, and pure telnet) are down. I think it self-sealed after an attempted attack. A similar event happened twice during the weekend, I will resolve it as soon as possible.

Mushes and Muds are unaffected by this breakdown, people can still log in and play.

Hallo!

For you folks that are running mushes and such on Lacus, I've gone through the trouble of making quicklinks to start up your games. You should find them in your /home/$username$ directory, they're named:

run*, where * is the name of your game.

Like, kielisyl, will see a file called runxeno in /home/***/ and profpendragon would see runeu in their /home/***/.

To run the game, all you must do is type
./*filename*

like

./runxeno

and it will gogogo!

Did you know that you can browse the contents of your folders in LacusServ though your standard browser?

Type this:

ftp://****@lacus.myftp.org/
where the **** is your username, always cap-sensitive.

It will prompt you for your username and password once again, but it would be a good idea not to save it permanently. It will send you to your /home/$username$/ directory for browsing. If you use IE and hate the way the infromation is displayed, you can go to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced(tab) and in browsing, disable 'folder view for ftp sites'.

This will allow you to see your folder in a nice, streamlined and minimalist setup.

We had some service issues as of late, mostly dealing with a Dynamic DNS referral error and loss of some webserv support during the weekend.

These problems were ISP side, as they changed my nameserver system and thus I had to update the IOS on the routers here. The problems are resolved, but in order to do this, I had to reboot all machines that lay behind the router. Please restart your processes, or email me your username and I will do it for you :)

Second fuckoff by an idiot in a month has both myself and a number of other people up in arms... so I had to draft up an AUP, since apparantly a certain user couldn't fathom that hosting a one gig file to a circle of ... oh ... a thousand people wouldn't piss me off.

Please read the documents located at the following.
Nothing heavy or whatnot, but I'm covering me butt.

New MOTD for the server, it's about time...
Acceptable Use Policy and Rules

Please, sign this thread with a comment to signify you have read this AUP.

(This was crossposted to my main journal)
All users of Lacus-Serv, please get into contact with me asap via email, listing your account name, your password, and the people you have handed out your passwords to. Someone has abused their priviledges, and I must take steps to ensure that this error doesn't happen again. It would seem that someone took it upon themsleves to take my generousity to act as a tftp/distributor, in conjunction with viral code.

I am not sure if this is an authrouized, or unauthourized user, so I will ask that everyone sends me an email with their information so that I can destroy old accounts and renew still-used accounts with new passwords.

Please send an email to kalar@nbnet.nb.ca, as soon as possible.

Thank you.
